Key service areas include Telephone Helpline - Staffed by trained female volunteers to offer support, advice and information to all non-abusing parents/ carers and to other agencies and organisations. Befriending Scheme - Volunteers facilitate a befriending scheme, designed to support clients in crisis. We offer up to three face to face sessions per client. Client Counselling - Volunteer counsellors provide an individual professional client counselling service. Client evaluation and feedback show the need for a counselling service within Mosac. 65% of the callers have identified this as a service they would use and value to enable them to come to terms with their situation and rebuild their confidence and self esteem. We aim to expand the service when funding for expenses and supervision allows. The project offers fortnightly group supervision and internal training days covering specific aspects / issues when working with sexual abuse. Telephone Counselling - Confidential contracted sessions are offered by qualified volunteer counsellor, to clients who are unable to come for face to face counselling. Support / Therapy Group - One paid group worker and one volunteer facilitate a group, they aim to provide an opportunity for parents to share their experiences and concerns to gain support from each other. A crèche is provided and transport to and from the group. Child Centred Play Therapy - We have a small budget to provide play therapy to a child whose parent is already being supported by us. Play therapy is a holistic approach, using play and art as a means of 'helping' the physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive aspects, both conscious and unconscious, taking account of the past, present and future of the whole child. Our information service includes a wide range of books, videos, audiotapes and a National database of other agencies and services for referral when necessary. This is helpful to families and agencies working with families affected by child sexual abuse. We have a large selection of leaflets for carers and children. Our poem booklet continues to grow and we welcome contributions from our clients. Mosac will raise awareness of the needs of the families affected by sexual abuse by liaison within the community and with voluntary and statutory agencies involved with families.
